PRACTICE SWINGS
We all do it. We take practice swings. No matter the season or ground conditions, in golf, we take practice swings. Practice swings enable us to ascertain the amount of force needed on a golf ball to make it go a certain direction, certain height and certain distance. If you are trying make contact with the ground at a certain place in your stance, you probably want to see where the leading edge of the clubface enters the ground. You are trying to match force with contact of the ground.
In a practice swing the clubface will get dirty with dirt, grass or both. You want a clean clubface when you actually make a swing at the ball. You probably need to use a towel or two, 1 wet & 1 dry, to clean the clubface.
You're at your ball and begin the practice swings, slightly brushing the grass until you get a little too deep and your clubface is dirty. You walk over to your golf bag or cart and use a towel to clean the clubface. You walk back over to the ball and of course need an additional practice swing to get that FEELING. The FEELING of having the right amount of force at the right place on the ground (where the ball would be). That's called the moment. Once you have the FEELING and you are focused on the process / staying in the moment, the last thing on your mind shouldn't be, is my clubface dirty or do I need to clean the clubface?
